Back To School Car Tips For The College Bound Driver

August 21, 2017

For many college-bound students, your mechanic resided right down the hallway on the recliner!  But when you leave the nest and head back to your dorm room, you might not have Mom and Dad to stay on top of your car maintenance.  Here are some items to keep in mind in between trips to the library and the quad:

Pay attention to that pesky fuel gauge: Gas is pretty important.

We know the choice is tough: do I get gas or pizza?  There is nothing worse than being out with your friends after a long day of class and having to push your car to the gas station because you ran out of fuel.  Yes, you can probably make it until you get paid on Friday, but why risk it?  Always keep at least a quarter tank of gas in your car.  You’ll thank us for it!

Before you leave for school or return home, do a quick vehicle check.

It will take you only a few minutes to do a quick vehicle inspection, but it could save you valuable time and even more valuable money in repair costs. This list walks you through everything, from check engine lights to checking your tires. You have enough expenses now that you’re back to school- why spend any more than you have to on your car?

Your parents aren’t there to tell you this, so we’ll do it for them.

Pay attention to the road and turn that music down!  Yes, vehicle maintenance is important, but it all starts with you paying attention to what you’re doing as you make your way back to school.  Stay off of the phone, and don’t text and drive are the basics. As far back as 2013 US News reported that 80% of college drivers were driving down the street while texting.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, distracted driving accounts for about 1,000 accidents a day. That text can wait until you get to a safe stopping point.

While we can’t call you every day to remind you to drive safely, our Rad Air pros would love to make sure your car is ready for school, just like you. If you’d like us to check it out before you hit the road, visit our website and schedule an appointment today!  With 10 locations in the Greater Cleveland area, we’re always around the corner!
