According to the AAA Foundation Report, Americans spend more than 17,600 minutes driving each year. Yes, that’s 293+ hours in our cars—the equivalent of 7 full work weeks! If we spend that much time behind the wheel, shouldn’t we want our cars to be as comfortable as possible? There are some simple things you can do to enhance your vehicle’s interior and make all those hours in the car a more enjoyable experience.
Start with the driver’s seat. If your seat isn’t comfortable, try different adjustments until you find one that works best. Sometimes we forget that we can adjust the slant of the backrest or the height of our seat. If you share a vehicle, make sure that you take a few minutes to adjust the seat settings before getting on the road. It’s not only important for your comfort, but for your safety, such as ensuring you can see clearly out of all mirrors. Still find your seat uncomfortable? Consider adding a seat cover to provide extra cushion for your back.
Get rid of clutter. Clutter can be overwhelming at home—and more so in the more confined space of our car. If you are distracted by random kids’ toys, jackets, library books, and so on taking up valuable real estate in your
vehicle, consider adding an organization system. This can be anything from an over the seatback car organizer to a plastic tub in the trunk or backseat to hold essential items. Eliminate the clutter and you’ll be surprised how much cleaner—and comfortable—your car feels.
Maintain your heating and cooling system. One thing’s for sure: A freezing car in the winter or a muggy, hot car in the summer is not comfortable. Avoid this fate by having your car’s heating and cooling system regularly inspected and maintained by your local car repair company.
Don’t go hungry. In Cleveland, you never know when traffic will come to a standstill on the highway. There’s few things more annoying than being hungry or thirsty while stuck in traffic, so be sure to keep some non-perishable snacks and bottled water on hand. If you are heading out on a longer drive or road trip, consider packing some fresh food items in a cooler in case you can’t find a good place to stop for lunch or dinner.
Consider your sense of smell. Do you find the scents of lavender or eucalyptus soothing? Do you love the smell of coconut during the summer? Find an air freshener or a scent diffuser that brings you comfort and display it or place it somewhere in your vehicle. This will help eliminate any unpleasant smells and keep the interior of your vehicle fresh.
We hope these tips help you make your vehicle more comfortable!
