Have you ever seen the big tank trucks filling the underground tanks at a gas station? Avoid filling up when you see these trucks! When the tanks are re-filled, sediment and debris are disturbed and can be passed into your vehicle. This sediment can clog your vehicle’s fuel filters and injectors which could cause poor performance and failures. In worst case scenarios, severe damage can occur in the fuel pump and fuel system causing the vehicle to stall or quit running and possibly leave the driver stranded on the side of the road. Many times these problems may not occur for as long as 12 months after the vehicle was refueled with contaminated gasoline.
To avoid these types of problems (and a trip to the mechanic), make sure to fill’er up when your tank has reached 1/4th of a tank. Sediment and debris rests in the bottom of the tank. When you run your vehicle until your fuelgaugereads “E”, sediment in the bottom of your tank is forced into the fuel system.
