6 Awesome Winter Road Trips

Summer isn’t the only time to take a road trip. Winter road trips are a great way to enjoy beautiful snowy views from the comfort of your vehicle. These winter road trip destinations are not too far away from our home in Northeast Ohio, so pick your favorite and pack up the car!

Parke County, Indiana – Take the Brown Driving Route which loops through Montezuma and Mecca. The route is home to 31 covered bridges that cross rivers and streams that wind through Amish Country. You’ll likely see horse-drawn carriages making their way through snow-covered meadows.

Great Smoky National Park, Tennessee and North Carolina – Starting in Gatlinburg, TN take 81 miles on US321 and I-40 East. You’ll be able to admire a snow covered forest and take a picture of Mount Cammerer. Enjoy time in Asheville, NC or take the aerial tram to view the Smokies at Tennessee’s Ober Gatlinburg resort.

Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, Virginia – Take Skyline Drive to enjoy views of frozen waterfalls, winter birds and wild animals. The National Park is open during the winter for snowshoeing and skiing.

Northern Door County, Wisconsin – For those of you brave enough to visit cold, coastal towns, drive along Wisconsin Highway 57. Enjoy local shops and restaurants and stop at Newport State Beach where 30 miles of trails have been groomed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Head to Gills Rock at the top of the peninsula to view the picturesque waterfront lined with fish houses and commercial fishing boats.

Old Mission Peninsula, Michigan – Visit local wineries to try sweet ice wine and watch the sunset over a frozen Lake Michigan. Visit Traverse City to enjoy a variety of winter activities.

Hocking Hills, Ohio – Enjoy sledding, hiking, skiing, ice skating and more winter activities and visit local wineries in beautiful Hocking Hills, Ohio! Consider renting a cabin to take view of the snow-covered forest.
