The Top 5 Most Iconic Presidential Cars of All-Time

February 19, 2018

There have been some pretty awesome cars parked at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in the District of Columbia.  The President is, at any given moment, the most powerful human being in the world.  In the early days, the President had the most beautiful horses to ride around on.  Then it became vogue for the President to have a cool boat or ship for private travel.  Then, of course, Air Force One came along and changed the way that the President got from here to there.  But along the way, the presidential convoy has become as iconic as any other vehicle to carry the leader of the free world.  From limos to steam-powered cars, the White House has seen it all.  Here’s a list of some of the most iconic cars to ever carry a President.

Teddy Roosevelt’s Stanley Steamer
It was the first automobile ever to be owned by the residents of the White House, and it will always be a classic.

Woodrow Wilson’s 1916 Cadillac Series 53
The Cadillac is now synonymous with the President, and this model was the first Caddy owned by a President.

Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1928 Cadillac V8 Town Sedan
This bulletproof car was once owned by Al Capone, but once he went to prison, the government commandeered the vehicle and put it to work protecting the President after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Barack Obama’s Cadillac Beast
Armor plating to withstand an RPG blast. A blood bank.  Night vision.  You name it; the Beast had it. The most technologically sophisticated car ever produced for Presidential transport.

John F. Kennedy’s 1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible SS-100-X
The world changed forever on November 22, 1963.  What might be odd to some is that after what happened in this car, it remained in service. It was passed on to Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon before being decommissioned.
