November is National Career Development Month, and there’s no better time to spotlight one of our employees who is doing great things and building his career at Rad Air: Matt Harbert.
Matt attended a technical program at the Northern Career Institute in high school to study automotive repair. He worked on his own projects and interned at a few local auto repair shops. During his time in high school, Bill Snow of Rad Air came to speak to the class about the incredible career opportunities in the industry. Matt was inspired by what Bill had to say and stopped him after class to introduce himself and make a connection.
Matt continued on his journey to work in the automotive industry and was able to do a work-study program in high school. He interviewed with Bill at Rad Air Wickliffe and was offered a position while he was still in high school. Matt would spend half of his day at the shop, and half of the day in class. He worked full-time with Rad Air during the summer and really expanded his knowledge of automotive repair during that time.
After Matt graduated, he was immediately offered a full-time job with Rad Air as an Automotive Technician/Lube Technician. In this role, he handled brake repairs, oil changes, tire replacement, and other tasks.
Over the past five years, Matt has had the opportunity for extensive training both inside and outside of Rad Air. He is now doing transmission work, diagnostics, and engine repair. Matt successfully completed his MACS 609 Air Conditioning Certification and recently spent a week at the Matrix Trade Institute learning even more.
Matt would love to be an owner/operator of a Rad Air franchise in the future.
“There’s a career to be had here at Rad Air,” said Matt. “I spend a lot of time with Andy and Bill. I believe in surrounding yourself with people that you want to be like and Rad Air is a great place to do that.”
In his free time, Matt participates with the Rad Air Racing Team, building camaraderie with his coworkers and enjoying life at the racetrack.
If you would like to pursue your career in the automotive industry like Matt, we would love to hear from you. Reach out to learn more about current opportunities.
