If your car’s system fails, the stakes are high: For example, your car’s A/C runs on defrost mode when it is above freezing outside and pulls moisture from the car to control condensation. If your defroster isn’t working, your car’s windows will fog with condensation—resulting in poor visibility.
The heating and cooling system in your vehicle relies on permanent coolant, or antifreeze, to operate. With a higher boiling point than water, permanent coolant prevents your vehicle from overheating. The coolant’s lubricants and anticorrosion properties also protect against chemical reactions in your engine. A good rule of thumb is to have your car’s heating and cooling system inspected during every Lube, Oil, and Filter change. Generally, we also recommend having your car’s heating and cooling system serviced every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, or 3 to 5 years, or as needed if you suspect an issue.
