The alternator is a critical component of a vehicle’s electrical system, in particular the charging system. It generates power that charges the battery and provides electricity for various electrical components while the engine is running. If the alternator malfunctions or fails, you can experience electrical issues and/or a dead car battery, difficulty starting your car, dimming lights in the vehicle’s interior, a warning light on the dashboard, and other issues.
An alternator should last anywhere from 80,000 to 150,000 miles depending on your driving style and typical driving conditions, whether you are staying up-to-date with your vehicle’s maintenance, and the quality of the alternator.
